“I get moments of clarity where it boggles my mind how the miracle of organ donation and transplantation saved my life, and I am still here. I love every moment of my life, and I see the beauty in even the most mundane things we do each day.”
Karl Halpin recently celebrated a remarkable milestone— the 10th anniversary of his life-saving liver transplant. Facing the challenges of end-stage liver disease, Karl received a liver transplant at University Hospital on January 27, 2013. This “gift of life”marked the beginning of Karl`s remarkable recovery. Defying the odds, Karl returned to work as a union ironworker and resumed his passion for playing ice hockey. His commitment to health and positive living has been an inspiration to those around him.

Yesterday, University Hospital hosted @firstladynewjersey to introduce legislation to grow hospital and birthing center access for doulas. The initiative provides additional access to care and services for expecting mothers, highlighting the importance of doulas within the maternal health system.
The announcement of the legislation served as a platform to advocate for disenfranchised women and their families, particularly Black expecting mothers who are 3-5 times more likely to have labor and postpartum-related complications.
Together, we can make a positive impact on maternal health outcomes and create a healthier future for our community.
