UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WELCOMES NEW CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER AND NEW SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF WELLNESS, DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

NEWARK, NJ — University Hospital has selected Raquel D. Morian as its new Chief Human Resources Officer. As part of the executive team, she will be responsible for the hospital’s human resources strategy and operations; talent management, including recruitment and leadership development; compensation and benefits; and labor relations.  Raquel joins University Hospital at a wonderfully exciting time, is fully prepared to work with her leadership colleagues to further UH’s focus on serving the city of Newark and the state of New Jersey through exceptional care and collaboration.

She is a seasoned professional who has the experience and knowledge to advance the day-to-day focus on the employees of University Hospital. Raquel joins UH from her position as Human Resources Director and Head of Talent Management at RWJBarnabas Health Systems, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. During her time there, she was tasked in part with actively developing and implementing talent acquisition, retention, and integrated staffing strategies, offering direct assistance to all departments to enhance organizational development, and developing workforce planning programs.  Raquel has additional experience across industries, including as the HR Director for Rockland County Community College and the HR Director, Talent Management for the American Civil Liberties Union. Raquel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Metropolitan College of New York and a Master of Business Administration from Adelphi University.

University Hospital has also selected Dr. Lois V. Greene, RN as its new Senior Vice President of Wellness, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Dr. Greene has served in an interim capacity for over a year in a similar role and was ultimately selected from a competitive field of qualified candidates.  In this critical role, Dr. Greene will be tasked with developing and implementing programs to enhance the health outcomes and well-being of our patients, employees, and the communities we serve. She will forge new and strengthen existing partnerships with community organizations to advance our wellness and population health goals. Additionally, Dr. Greene will work to create strategies that foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our university community, including staff, medical professionals, patients, volunteers, and visitors. She will also lead efforts to ensure access to wellness services beyond the traditional healthcare system, promoting social and community services as integral components of our healthcare approach.A person in a black jacket Description automatically generated

Ed Jimenez, President and Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital, notes “Dr. Greene brings a wealth of knowledge and commitment to the role.  Her extensive background as a clinician, ranging from Emergency Medicine to Ambulatory Care and Oncology, gives her a unique perspective that positions her to make a transformative impact on our community and our colleagues.”

Throughout her career, Dr. Greene has exhibited her commitment to healthcare in various leadership capacities and board memberships. She has actively contributed to organizations such as the YMCA of Newark and Vicinity, Northeast Region Board of the American Heart Association, the Concerned Black Nurses of Newark (Immediate Past President), and the Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Incorporated (where she currently holds the position of Secretary). Additionally, she serves as the President of the New Jersey State Nurses Association Region 3, further exemplifying her dedication to the advancement of the nursing profession.

Dr. Greene’s doctoral research, centered on identifying patient factors contributing to preventable healthcare admissions, reflects her relentless pursuit of improving healthcare outcomes. Her passion for nursing, leadership, and healing has also led her to provide nursing and mission service in Kenya, Peru, and Jamaica WI.
