A Guide for Visitors

Revised Visitor Policy

Patients at UH are entitled to have visitors of their choice, as well as the support of professional care assistants like doulas. We are committed to ensuring that every patient receives the support and care they need without discrimination.

Our goal is to make your experience as pleasant as possible while your loved one is being cared for. We embrace patient and family-centered care and recognize the substantial strengths and resources that families and professional support persons such as doulas provide during this time.

Visitation and Support Person Policy:

· Limitation on Number of Persons: Limit to two (2) individuals at a time in the patient’s room. Other designated waiting locations including the lobby and cafeteria can be used for additional family members to wait.

· Doula as a Support Person: A doula, being a professional support person, is not counted as a visitor. They are recognized for their role in providing continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the patient.

· Prohibited Items: No blankets or pillows can be brought from home. These pose an infection prevention & control risk for our patients and staff.

· Food and Drink Restrictions: Only small snacks and drinks can be consumed in the waiting room. Meals should be taken to the cafeteria. Food from home cannot be stored in the waiting room.
