What We Heard

Community engagement board: what the community said the new University Hospital should do (summary below)

Members of the University Hospital community shared their voices on the future of the hospital as part of the Campus Planning Process.

The new University Hospital should:

  • (1) Foster a sense of safety and trust: safe and accessible parking; well-lit spaces to assure a sense of security; multi-lingual signage, translation and communication; a human-centric arrival experience; transparency and accountability between the community and UH leadership; reliable and accessible technology.
  • (2) Build community and opportunity: health-education-based community programming; cultural engagement through local art, diversity training for staff, and trauma-informed practices; partnerships with local schools and community groups for recruitment and training; a more personal employee experience through UH affinity groups, UH community spaces and employee recognition programs.
  • (3) Create conditions for health and well-being: a variety of indoor and outdoor multi-use green spaces for physical and mental well-being; a focus on healthy food and nutrition through educational programming and diverse food options; family-focused spaces for play, learning and respite; health-related ground-floor retail and services with street access.
