What is Podiatry?
Podiatry is a branch of medicine dedicate to the study of the foot, ankle, and related structures of the lower leg. At University Hospital, all our podiatrists are board-certified experts that focus on many fields, including surgery, sports medicine, wound care, pediatrics, and diabetic care.
When to see a Podiatrist?
Feet are complex anatomical structures with 26 bones, 33 joints, and many muscles tendons, and
ligaments. Your feet are instrumental to overall health and well-being and can significantly impact your
everyday life. Call our podiatrist’s when you have:

Meet Our Physicians
Keith Cook, DPM, FACFAS
Dr. Cook is the Director of the Podiatry Department at University Hospital. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He went on to complete a residency in podiatric surgery at University Hospital. He is certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Cook’s clinical interests are trauma and foot and ankle reconstruction.
Sonia Mvuemba, DPM, MSHS, FACFAS
Dr. Mvuemba earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Western University of Health Sciences College of Podiatric Medicine in Pomona, CA. She then completed her residency in podiatric medicine and surgery at University Hospital. She went on to complete a fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Palo Alto Foundation Medical Group in Santa Cruz, CA. She is board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Mvuemba’s clinical interests are trauma, the diabetic foot, and reconstruction of complex foot and ankle deformities.
Adam Bernatsky, DPM, FACFAS, DABPM
Dr Bernatsky earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He went on to complete his residency at Metropolitan Hospital an affiliate of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He then completed a trauma and rearfoot reconstructive fellowship at the University of Louisville. He is double board certified in foot and reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and Podiatric Medicine by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Prior to joining the UH team, Dr. Bernatsky worked at NYCPM as a clinical instructor in the department of surgery teaching both residents and students. His clinical interests are in trauma as well as complex rearfoot and forefoot reconstructive procedures.
Steven Stuto, DPM
Dr. Stuto achieved his doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Independence, OH. He went on to complete his residency at University Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Surgery at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, San Antonio, TX. Prior to joining the University Hospital team, Dr. Stuto worked in Private Practice in Brooklyn Heights, NY. He was also appointed as a Weill Cornell Medical College Clinical Instructor of Podiatry in Surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. His clinical interests are in trauma, diabetic foot, charcot reconstruction, and complex rearfoot and forefoot reconstructive procedures.
