The Department of Dental Medicine provides a wide range of general and specialty services to adults and children, including treatment of patients with diseases of the face, mouth and jaw. The department also provides dental care to individuals who are medically compromised and must be treated in a hospital environment. The department is divided into three divisions: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Hospital Dentistry, and Pediatric Dentistry, which includes a Special Care Dentistry for the treatment of mentally and physically challenged patients.

All divisions of the department provide consultation services to University Hospital. . In addition, the department established the Clinical Pathways program to support the activity of other services within University Hospital, such as dental clearance prior to radiation therapy, chemotherapy, transplantation, prosthetic joints, cardiac surgery and immunosuppressed patients prior to those and other surgical procedures.
