What is low vision?
Low vision is a vision loss that cannot be corrected by regular eyeglasses, medicine, or surgery. The goal of low vision care is to help people use their remaining vision to stay independent and do everyday activities.
What is a low vision exam?
A low vision exam looks at how well your vision works in daily life. The visit usually lasts 60-90 minutes. You will be asked questions about your daily activities and how your vision loss affects you. The doctor will then do special testing and talk with you about your goals. A plan will be designed just for you based on your goals. This may include helpful tools and/or resources to support those with vision loss.
What should I bring to the exam?
Please bring your eye and medical records and a list of your medicines. Bring any vision tools you use, such as glasses, contact lenses, or magnifiers.
How can I refer my patients to the low vision clinic?
Eye doctors (ophthalmologists and optometrists) can fax the patient’s recent records to (973) 972-1244, attention to Dr. Lam / Low Vision. After the records are reviewed, our staff will contact the patient to schedule an appointment.
