Dr Justin Sambol MD MBA FACS, Professor and Chief

Huzaifa A Shakir MD MHA FACS FCCP , Assistant Professor

Huzaifa A. Shakir, MD is the recipient of the Richard J. Elkort Memorial Award for Excellence in Surgery and a graduate of the Accelerated BA/MD program from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed extensive Cardiothoracic Surgical training at both New York University and Rutgers University.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Shakir is honored to provide life-saving surgical services at the region’s busiest hospitals and has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” in New Jersey annually since 2010. Most recently, he helped lead the initiative to start a structural heart program at University Hospital (a Level 1 Trauma Center) in Newark, NJ.

Dr. Shakir is a seasoned professional with depth of expertise in a wide range of complex open heart and robotic thoracic-oncology procedures. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and The college of Chest Physicians, and Chair of the Standards and Ethics Committee for the Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society.
