Radiation Oncology Service

The Radiation Oncology Service provides palliative and curative radiation treatments. Treatment delivery options include electron and photon external beam therapy and brachytherapy, Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Fractionated Radiosurgery (SRT), high dose radiotherapy (HDR) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).

The Radiation Oncology Service treats inpatients, outpatients and emergency patients of all ages.

 

Hours of Operation

All routine Radiation Oncology services are provided on site.

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Physicians and a Therapist are on call for emergency procedures 24 hours / 7days per week.

Recognized Standards or Practice Guidelines

Procedures in all modalities are provided in accordance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines set forth by the Medical Staff and UH Administration. Included are, the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), The Food and Drug Administration, Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Radiation Health (DEP, BRH).

Using the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) concept of radiation protection, all procedures are performed utilizing proper techniques and positioning in order to assure that minimal doses are used.

All staff receives proper in-service and education in order to keep current on the latest technology and safety issues so that they can provide proper patient care.
