University Hospital’s oncology staff provides comprehensive diagnosis, staging, and treatment services to cancer patients. Expertise is available in the areas of:

Participation in nationally sponsored clinical trials under the auspices of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, as well as local and industry-sponsored clinical trials, is available.

Patients are managed with individualized multidisciplinary treatment planning. Special attention is given to maximizing patients’ comfort and well-being with board-certified expertise in palliative care available as well. The administration of chemotherapy is accomplished with special attention given to maximizing patients’ comfort and well-being. A full range of chemotherapeutic techniques, including long-term infusion, administration of biological response modifiers (monoclonal antibodies and other state of the art modalities) and hematologist growth factors, as well as blood product support is available.

Our hematologists offer consultation in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of blood disorders. Particular expertise and research interest in bone marrow failure states, particularly aplastic anemia, myelofibrosis, and immunologic disorders affecting hematopoiesis.

Other areas of interest include hemoglobinopathies, myelodysplasia, leukemia and lymphomas. Appropriate patients may be entered into ongoing clinical trials concerned with the control and amelioration of crises associated with sickle cell anemia. Specialized laboratory support provides cell surface markers, gene rearrangement analysis, coagulation function tests, and high resolution cytogenetic studies.
