The Department of Anesthesiology provides clinical anesthesia services to the hospital’s surgical suite, same-day surgery program at both the hospital and Doctors Office Center, medical special procedures unit, cardiac cath lab, interventional radiology and neurosurgical suites, New Jersey Trauma Center, intensive care units, and intraoperative radiation therapy program. It also accepts referrals to the University Hospital Comprehensive Pain Center.

General anesthesia with the latest anesthetic agents, as well as, local block, spinal, and epidural anesthesia are employed. Sophisticated monitoring devices are used to assess the physical condition of the patient during surgery, and other invasive procedures. Care by the anesthesiologist continues into the recovery room and intensive care units.
