UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL WELCOMES NEW CHIEF COMPLIANCE AND PRIVACY OFFICER

NEWARK, NJ — University Hospital today announced the appointment of Astara Crews as its new Chief Compliance Officer. Astara will assume a crucial role in the hospital’s executive leadership team, overseeing compliance initiatives and contributing to the institution’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare to the Newark community, the county, and the state. Astara’s position is effective January 8th, 2024.

Astara will play a vital role in advancing several key initiatives as we continue to invest in the well-being of our patients and community.”

Astara joins University Hospital from Essen Health Care in the Bronx, NY, where she most recently served as the Chief Compliance Officer. Essen Health Care is a prominent practice with 50 locations and over 300 providers, dedicated to offering care for the under-served.

With a wealth of experience, Astara has previously held significant compliance roles. Prior to joining Essen, she served as the Senior Compliance Officer for Nuvance Health, a healthcare system based in CT and the Hudson Valley. Additionally, Astara spent six years as the Director of Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, and Privacy at ENT and Allergy Associates in Tarrytown, NY, a practice with over 300 providers and 40 locations.

With over 15 years of expertise in leading compliance teams, Astara demonstrates a strong commitment to maintaining the highest ethical and regulatory standards in healthcare. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology, Biology, and Chemistry, as well as a Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law and Enterprise Risk Management.
