University Hospital Ranks Highest Among New Jersey Hospitals on Forbes’ Inaugural National List of Best Healthcare Employers

Monday, October 13, 2025 – University Hospital has earned national recognition on Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals, debuting 56th out of 250 employers across the country. Among all New Jersey hospitals included on the list, University Hospital ranked the highest, underscoring its reputation as both a top workplace for healthcare professionals and a cornerstone of care for the state.

“This recognition is a testament to the mission of University Hospital, which is to serve our community, both patients and staff, in the best way possible,” said Dr. Kaitlan Baston, Interim President & CEO. “This accolade goes to every member of our UH team, whose dedication, compassion, and expertise make this achievement possible. Their commitment drives excellence in care and makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”

The new Forbes ranking, developed with Statista, surveyed over 17,000 healthcare and social services employees.  Participants were asked to rate their employers on a variety of factors reflecting their work environment and overall experience. These responses, combined with data from three years of employer surveys, determined the final rankings.

This national distinction follows the hospital’s earlier recognition in August, when it was named one of New Jersey’s Best Employers by Forbes, ranking 39th out of thousands of eligible employers statewide. These consecutive accolades highlight University Hospital’s ongoing commitment to fostering a positive work environment and supporting employee advancement and success.

As New Jersey’s only public acute care hospital, University Hospital employs nearly 4,000 team members and serves as the principal teaching hospital for Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. The hospital has Northern New Jersey’s only state-certified Level I Trauma Center, features a nationally recognized EMS program, and serves as a leading force in promoting health and well-being across Newark and the surrounding region.
