Newark’s University Hospital is Highest-Ranked NJ Hospital on Forbes’ 2026 America’s Best Midsize Employers List

February 17, 2026, NEWARK: University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers for 2026. Employers are recognized for their employee satisfaction and their commitment to fostering a strong positive workplace culture.

University Hospital is the highest-ranked healthcare institutions in New Jersey on the list and one of only two hospitals in the state to receive this distinction, further solidifying its reputation as a leading health care employer not only in New Jersey, but in the nation.

“Forbes’ recognition of University Hospital as a leading employer underscores what we have always known – UH is a truly special place to work,” said Carole Johnson, President & CEO of University Hospital. “When employees feel valued and supported, people thrive and that translates into exceptional care and a meaningful impact for our entire community.”

The annual Forbes ranking is based on surveys of employees at mid-size institutions about their work environment and overall experience. The responses, combined with three years of additional employer survey data, determine final rankings.

As New Jersey’s only public acute care hospital, University Hospital serves as a cornerstone of health care in New Jersey, providing care to tens of thousands of patients each year. In 2025, University Hospital staff provided high quality health care for more than 102,000 Emergency Department visits, 125,000 EMS calls, and 161,000 outpatient clinic appointments. University Hospital also serves as the only State-certified Level I Trauma Center for all of Northern New Jersey and the medical helicopter emergency medical response for the entire State.  As the principal teaching hospital for Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, University Hospital also plays a critical role in training the next generation of physicians for New Jersey.
