Prior to joining the Newark Charter School Fund, Nicole Butler was the founder and President of United Minds, a consulting company that provides quality and affordable development services to organizations including strategic planning, proposal development, potential donor research and event planning. Nicole began her career as a counselor at a juvenile detention center and as a Resident Director in higher education. In 2000, she entered the area of non-profit development and management. During this experience, Nicole discovered her passion for working with nonprofit organizations to overcome various organizational challenges. In the fall of 2001, United Minds began providing services to one client and has worked in partnership with over fifty organizations.

Nicole entered the area of Education Reform through her work as the Director of Education Grantmaking at the Nicholson Foundation directing over $4M annual portfolio investing in Newark, Trenton and Camden, NJ. She led various efforts supporting youth and education initiatives and was the founding Co-chair of the Education Subcommittee of the Newark Funder’s Group, a funding collaborative with over 20 foundations investing in education initiatives in Newark, NJ.

Nicole serves on the Newark Youth Policy Board, as the Vice Chair of the Building Believers Trust Corporation. Nicole earned her B.A. degree in psychology from Elizabethtown College and her M.A. from New York University. Nicole resides in Newark with her daughter.

She was appointed to the University Hospital Community Oversight Board on October 23, 2014 for a term that will expire October 22, 2016.
