Prostate & Colorectal Cancer Screenings

FREE cancer screenings are available for eligible male residents. University Hospital is partnering with Rutgers Health to provide various clinic dates. Please see flyer for additional details and how to schedule an appointment.

Clinic dates: February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13 and June 10, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., ACC E-Level, 140 Bergen Street

Prostate cancer screening (PSA blood test): men aged 45 and over without symptoms.

Colorectal screening (take-home stool test kit for early detection of occult blood): men and women aged 45 and over without symptoms. Anyone with symptoms will be referred to a gastroenterologist for further evaluation.

You must also: be a resident of Essex County, meet income eligibility criteria, and be uninsured.

Know before you go:

  • Screenings are free, and an appointment is required (patients must contact SAVE to schedule).
  • SAVE can provide free transportation to and from the clinics.
  • Prostate cancer screening is bloodwork only – no undressing, no rectal exam, and no fasting required.
  • Colorectal screening uses a FIT Kit – no undressing or colonoscopy required. Kits are mailed back to SAVE free of charge.
  • SAVE will notify patients of results and assist those with abnormal findings in completing follow-up care.
