University Hospital’s general pediatric inpatient unit consists of 10 pediatric beds with 24-hour pediatric hospitalist coverage and experienced pediatric nurses. Pediatric admissions cross a wide spectrum of specialties from bread-and-butter pediatric diagnoses such as asthma, diabetes, pneumonia, etc., to management of patients with complex and chronic medical conditions such as cerebral palsy, intractable epilepsy, genetic syndromes, and metabolic disorders. Pediatric specialist inpatient consultation includes pediatric cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, and pulmonology. In addition, we have an extensive team of pediatric surgical subspecialties such as trauma, neurosurgery, ophthalmology orthopedics, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery for which we receive transfers from all over the state for evaluation.
