The Division provides state-of-the-art services for children with gastrointestinal and liver disorders. Evaluation and management of acute and chronic liver disease and long-term follow-up care for recipients of liver transplants is available for children transplanted at University Hospital or out-of-state centers. Endoscopic procedures including percutaneous gastrostomy placement, liver biopsy, esophageal pH monitoring, and breath testing for carbohydrate intolerance are offered. The division oversees the use of enteral and parenteral nutrition support in hospitalized children and in the home setting.
Research interests include developmental aspects of carbohydrate and bile acid transport, Hepatitis C screening and long-term follow-up in high-risk families, and gastrointestinal aspects of childhood autism.
