Comprehensive care of the visually impaired or blind patient includes meticulous refraction, individual counseling on the selection and use of low vision aids, referral for mobility training, and social services. The goal of the Low Vision Service is to enable the partially-sighted individual to remain functional and independent when standard spectacles, contact lenses, or surgery no longer suffice. The service dispenses a full-range of devices to aid those with low vision to function more effectively with their remaining vision. The staff works closely with physicians in the Center for Macular Degeneration Treatment and Research to optimize patient care.
