The section has particular research and clinical expertise in unusual and hard to manage immunodeficiency problems, anaphylaxis, recalcitrant asthma, state-of-the-art immunotherapy, and the treatment of vasculitis.

Laboratory services include R.A.S.T., IgE, immunoglobulins, immune complexes and complement components, histamine assays, and pollen counts. In conjunction with the Division of Hematology, immunologic assays are offered, such as cellular function assays including lymphokines, natural killer cell function, autologous and mixed lymphocyte responses, and other cellular assays.

A comprehensive program in immuno-ophthalmology is offered in conjunction with the Department of Ophthalmology. Referrals are accepted for the systemic evaluation of iritis, uveitis, retinal vasculitis, orbital pseudotumor, pseudotumor cerebri, temporal arteritis/vasculits and other autoimmune associated ocular disorders.

The section of Rheumatology provides a full-range of diagnostic and treatment services to patients with joint and immune disorders. A comprehensive approach and continuity of care is ensured through close collaboration with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics, and the Pain Management Center.
