Ketlen Baptiste Alsbrook, MPA

As part of Mayor Ras Baraka’s vision to “continue moving Newark forward and deliver the highest quality of public service to our residents”, Ketlen Baptiste Alsbrook was appointed to serve as the Director for the city of Newark’s Department of Health & Community Wellness and CEO for the Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center in July 2022.  As Director for the state’s largest health department and CEO of a federally qualified health center, Ketlen oversees a budget of over $65 million that supports a spectrum of public health services including surveillance, prevention, treatment, social support, and community engagement.

Ketlen has been with the Newark Health Department for over 20 years, serving in various capacities.  In 2017, she accepted the position of Chief of Staff while also serving as Project Director for the Newark Metropolitan Ryan White Program, which spans five counties and serves thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS each year.

Ketlen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Montclair State University.  She graduated with honors from Rutgers University in 2010, earning a Masters of Public Administration.

Ketlen is a proud fellow of Leadership Newark’s Class of 2013 and sits on various committees, including the Sexual Health Advisory Committee for Newark Public Schools and the Steering Committee of Believe in Healthy Newark.  She serves on the Board of Trustees for the Greater Newark Health Care Coalition and sits on the Board of Directors for the NJ Primary Care Association. In 2024, Ketlen joined the Board of Directors for University Hospital Newark.

Ketlen was born in Puerto-Prince, Haiti and is a long-time resident of the city of Newark where she resides with her husband and two children.
