University Hospital is committed to providing the best care for all our patients, and that includes understanding and addressing the unique health needs for LGBTQ+ individuals. One way we do this is by collecting information about a patients’ sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI).

Why is SOGI data collection important?

  • Understanding patients’ SOGI allows us to provide more tailored and effective care.
  • It helps us identify and address health disparities faced by LGBTQ+ individuals.
  • It helps us create a more inclusive and equitable healthcare experience for all members of our community.
  • All New Jersey hospitals are required to request this information per State law.

Is participation in SOGI data collection mandatory?

No, participation in SOGI data collection is completely voluntary. You have the right to choose not to answer any or all the questions.  However, we are required to ask you for the information.

Is the information provided kept confidential?

Yes, all information provided will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of your optimal patient care experience at University Hospital.
