The Center for Advanced Liver Diseases and Transplantation

973-972-LIVR (5487)

The Center for Advanced Liver Diseases and Transplantation opened in 1989 and is the first liver transplant center in New Jersey. It is noteworthy to mention, since its opening, the Center has performed more than 1,600 liver transplants. Recently, the United States made lifesaving history by reaching 1 million organ transplants. As a member of the United Network of Organ Transplants, University Hospital is proud to have played a part in this historic milestone.

The team consists of a highly trained group of physicians that include hepatologists, interventional radiologists and other radiologist specially trained in cross-sectional body imaging. This team is supported by physician assistants, nurse coordinators, social workers, financial coordinators and nutritionists who help coordinated the patient’s care. Nurse coordinators play an important role as the daily, direct and personal liaison between the transplant team and the patient. A dedicated inpatient unit provides standardized pre- and post-transplant care. An active support group for patients, who are awaiting transplant, and those who have undergone transplant, is available and supported by the Center. The Center also provides follow-up care to patients transplanted at other centers.
