How to Join Us

We’d love to have you join our team and become a University Hospital Volunteer! Here’s some information to help get you started

Types of Volunteers
Volunteers are categorized into two categories - adult and teen. To be an adult volunteer, you must be over the age of 18. To be a teen volunteer, you must be age 16 or 17 and have your parent’s permission.

"At Your Service” Intern Program:

Our At Your Service Intern Program allows college students that are studying Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Pre-Medicine, or Hospitality to have a non-clinical learning experience. Participants will enhance the patient and guest experience in a variety of ways. Students will pro-actively round on patients to assist with non-clinical needs. The rounds will assist with checking on patient comfort levels to ensure that they are having a positive experience. Visits will be logged and tracked within the department. Interns will communicate patient feedback to the team.

They will also have the opportunity to provide hospitality services, which include: business services(mailing, faxing/scanning and copying for patients), providing information about hospital and the City of Newark, assisting with obtaining taxi service, hotel and restaurant reservations, notary services, flower and gift delivery to patients, and providing assistance with the book and information cart. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.

This program requires that you commit to providing 6 hours per week of service throughout the semester.

Behavior:
The experience of volunteering comes with a great deal of responsibility. Our first job is to always be helpful – we must also be courteous, dependable, punctual and maintain confidentiality as we learn new things and meet new people.
