How You Can Help
Volunteers provide service in many areas of the hospital. While most opportunities involve direct contact with patients and guests, there are some that do not involve direct contact. Needless to say, we offer opportunities to work in a variety of areas that meet individual interests. Have a look at some of our more popular assignments listed below.
At Your Service Internship:
Our Internship program is ideal for students seeking to have non-clinical interactions with patients and guests. The program requires that students devote 6 hours per week during the semester to proactively round to meet patient and guest needs as well as assisting at our Guest Relations desk. Participants are required to complete a project in the hospital based on their area of study.
Book Cart Couriers:

Play games, read and facilitate crafts with our pediatric patients
Provide assistance with answering phones, filing, data entry, copying/faxing/scanning, and other duties as assigned
Provide comfort visits to patients and guests that are being cared for in the Emergency Department (as a pre-requisite, volunteers are required to provide service in another clinical area before being assigned to the Emergency Department)
Provide friendly visits at the bedside to brighten a patients’ day
Greet visitors and patients, assist with way finding and distribution of visitor passes
Pet Therapy Program:
Furry friends and their owners provide therapeutic visits to patients in the hospital (animal and handler must be certified by a licensed agency to provide this service)
Provide assistance with transporting patients via wheelchair throughout the organization
Facilitate communication between patients and their loved ones while they are in the waiting area (assignment is typically in Same Day Surgery or the Emergency Department)
