University Hospital Wins ‘Most Wired’ Status in
AHA Survey on IT Use in Health Care

National survey serves as industry barometer on IT use by hospitals

NEWARK, NJ -- University Hospital has been designated “Most Wired” for its Information Technology capabilities in a national survey conducted by the American Hospital Association (AHA) in cooperation with Clearwater Compliance, LLC.

“The Most Wired hospitals are using every available technology option to create more ways to reach their patients in order to provide access to care,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “They are transforming care delivery, investing in new delivery models in order to improve quality, provide access and control costs.”

An estimated 2,158 hospitals, more than 39 percent of all hospitals in the U.S., took part in the online survey which assessed how hospitals are leveraging IT to improve performance for value-based health care in the areas of infrastructure, business and administrative management; quality and safety; and clinical integration.

“University Hospital (UH) is proud to have won this coveted designation,” said Richard Tunnell, UH Chief Information Officer. “We are making great strides in adapting cutting edge technologies to advance the quality of care we provide while protecting the security of patient information.”

The survey focuses on four key areas: infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety, and clinical integration. University Hospital was one of 461 hospitals nationally that achieved “Most Wired” status for meeting each of the criteria in the four focus areas.

The full survey results were published in the July issue of Hospitals & Health Networks, a publication of the AHA.
