The University Comprehensive Epilepsy Center offers patients a wide range of diagnostic and treatment options and features a highly skilled, experienced medical team, state-of-the-art equipment, and a multidisciplinary approach to patient care that includes social workers, nutritionists, and rehabilitation professionals.

Continuous video-electroencephalogram (EEG) monitoring is central to determining the cause of a patient’s seizures. The Center utilizes five monitoring units, two of which are used exclusively for children. The staff has extensive experience in monitoring, other specialized EEG procedures, and the use of functional MRI scanning.

The Center is at the forefront of exciting developments in anti-epileptic drugs. Clinical trials are available for adults and children who have not responded well to conventional medications. In some cases, patients with intractable seizures may require surgery. The Center offers epilepsy surgery to selected patients for whom there is no other option. Presurgical workup will include EEG monitoring, neuropsychological evaluation, and coronal MRI using a special epilepsy protocol.
